National spokesperson of Congress and MLA from Abdasa, Shaktisinh Gohil today said that the incident of atrocity on dalits in Una exposed negligent and insensitive approach of BJP government of Gujarat. On hearing that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was to visit the affected family, Chief Minister eushed to Una, nine days after the incident, he said.

Referring to the much publicized decision of the Gujarat government to have special court and special PP for this case, he said that this provision was made by Congress. BJP government was lax in implementing laws relating to dalits.

He pointed out that there is a provision of a committee under the leadership of Chief Minister for the review of cases of atrocity on Dalits. Leader of Opposition and some MLAs are members of this committee. During 2007-12, when Modi was Chief Minister of Gujarat, this committee had met only once, he said. Prime Minister who is always active on tweet, has no tweet for dalit victims, Gohil said.

Incident of atrocity on dalits is a shocking and shameful incident for people of Gujarat. Gohil appealed to people to maintain peace and harmony and to protest in Gandhian way. Self immolation by dalits shows the extreme pain of dalits. He appealed to dalit youth not to resort to such extreme steps. The pain is not of dalits alone but the entire society.
