Seven seamen from Gujarat have died while many more have been trapped at Khokha port of Yemen. These seamen are from Kutch and Jamnagar district of Gujarat. National spokesperson of Congress and party MLA from Abdasa of Kutch district Shaktisinh Gohil has drawn the attention of Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj to the plight of these seamen and sought immediate help for their evacuation.
He said while two ships trapped at the port have been destroyed five other are facing heavy bombarding. Though two ships belong to Dubai staff of the ships was from Gujarat, he pointed out. He said that bodies of three of the seven dead have been found and buried according to information reaching here.
He said that those who are injured in shelling must be rescued and provided medical treatment most urgently. Government of India must take immediate steps to bring these seamen to India and help them get justice to those who have been killed.
He said that seamen trapped in Yemen are very poor and government should give relief to their families. He also sought compensation for the two ships destroyed in bombing at Khokha port. Until Yemen govt provides compensation, government of India should offer help to the ship owners.
Gohil released to media photographs of the damaged ships and injured seamen. Gujarat government should not only bring pressure on government of India but it should also offer financial help to the victims.
