A true Indian

A true Indian, whose intentions can never be questioned.

As Sonia Gandhiji completes her 64th birthday, it takes me back to the days when the main opposition in the parliament created noise and tried to carry here message of a ‘Videshi” bahu. But the opposition’s opinion just remained a noise and the people of this country stood by her realising that her intentions were more Indian than any one of us.

She might not be of an Indian origin but her values are deeply embibed with the culture, the social fabric and the interests of the people of this country. So when she coined the termed a party and the government of ‘aam admi’ she ensured that all the government’s decisions were meant for the aam admi even if at times it meant ruling out the decisions of some of her party colleagues.

Like a true Indian bahu she has proved that she was not power crazy so when in 2005 the Congress was voted to power after a sustained campaign against her Indian origin she proved it by her action that she was not here to stake power. She is one who rather believed in serving the people so instead of becoming the PM which was really cut out for her at that time she gave it up and decided to build the party like a joint family and guide them in sharing power with other coalition partners.

If that has been her political acumen, even as a true Indian mother her she embibed values in her children Rahul and Priyanka who have never overstepped their domain and flexed their muscles as commonly seen with children of many political leaders. Like a true Indian mother she has taught them to respect their elders hence we see and hear Rahul Gandhi announcing in public his respect for former PM Vajpayee. She definitely does not need to prove her intentions any more the people have proved it by voting in favour of her. And her actions have always been louder than words, so you do not see her making too many public speeches rather taking actions that concern the interests of the people of this country. So now even the opposition has no other option but to look for other issues rather than harping on the Videshi origin which really never clicked as it was far away from the truth. A true Indian at heart she had rightly said after the results of the Lok Sabha elections,

“The people of this country know what is right for them.”
